Tech Protest Update: Investigation Underway Following 19th Running of Northern Sprint Car Nationals

OHSWEKEN, ON – After the conclusion of the 19th Running of the Northern Sprint Car Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway on Saturday, September 16, 2023, the second-place finisher Sam Hafertepe Jr. launched a technical protest raising questions about the performance of the winner Mike Bowman’s car.

In response to this protest, a substantial sum of money was pledged to conduct a comprehensive examination of the Magneto and Ignition Box in Mike Bowman’s victorious sprint car. The focus of the investigation is centered on detecting any potential presence of Traction Control devices.

The Ohsweken Speedway Management and Technical Officials reviewed the protest and, in the spirit of fairness and transparency, decided to proceed with the investigation. Both the Magneto and Ignition Box from the cars of Mike Bowman and Sam Hafertepe Jr. were meticulously removed and have been sent back to the manufacturer for thorough testing.

We anticipate receiving the results of this critical examination by September 29, 2023. Following the completion of the testing process, the results will be made available to the public, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed of the outcome.

This development underscores the commitment of Ohsweken Speedway to uphold the integrity of competitive racing and to ensure a level playing field for all participants. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the racing community and fans as we work to resolve this matter.
