MIDDLETOWN, NY – With the score Mother Nature 2 – Racers 1, everyone is hoping for clear skies when weekly racing resumes Saturday, May 13 at Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York. In addition to the headline Big-Block Modifieds, the compelling Sportsman, the youngsters in the Rookie Sportsman division, and the action-packed Street Stocks, the open-wheel Capital Region Sprint Agency (CRSA) Sprint Cars will make its second 2017 appearance on the five-eighths-mile Hard Clay speedway. CRSA is a regional sprint car sanctioning body that features cars powered by 305 cid engines and other restrictions to equalize and enhance competition.
On April 29, in the only completed weekly program this season, veteran driver Jimmy Horton, a two-time Orange County Modified champion, took top honors in the Big-Block 30-lap feature race. Other feature race winners that evening included Sportsman victor Mel Schrufer, Rookie Sportsman winner John Farissier, Street Stock titlist ageless Emerson Cargain Sr., and CRSA winner Thomas Radivoy. Radivoy had also won at Accord Speedway the previous night, giving him a sweep of the week’s 305 Sprint Car action. All will be looking to become repeat victors this Saturday at Orange County. They’ll be joined by some 100 other competitors aiming for Victory Lane laurels.
The CRSA Sprint Cars will appear at Orange County on five nights in 2017. Among the CSRA drivers familiar to local fans include Scott Goodrich, Tyler Jashembowski, Christian Rumsey, and Emily VanInwegen. All have competed on the Middletown Hard Clay in other racing divisions.
Johnstons Subaru and Holiday Inn of Middletown are the evening’s sponsors.
Admission prices for the May 13 race meet remain at $15 adults, $13 seniors, and $1 for children 12 and under. The full night of racing begins promptly at 6:30 pm and will include Kids Club activities for the youngsters.
