OCFS Opener Scheduled for April 21

MIDDLETOWN, NY – Orange County Fair Speedway will begin its 69th consecutive year of weekly stock car racing Saturday night, April 21, with the first green flag at 6:30 P.M. The historic Middletown, New York five-eights-mile “Hard Clay” surfaced speedway opener will feature four divisions of race cars—Modifieds, Sportsman, Rookie Sportsman, and Street Stocks—in qualifying races and main events with the evening’s program sponsored by Halmar International.

“We’re eager to get started,” said Orange County general manager Mike Gurda. “I know the competitors can’t wait to get on the track. And for the fans, we’ve held the adult admission at the same $15 as last year. Tickets for our senior fans are $13, and kids under 12 just $1.00. There’s a $1.00 car charge in the Drive-in section. Other parking is free. All seats are general admission with the exception of season ticket holder reserved seats that are marked with a plaque.”

Special events are planned throughout the season, including community and organizations nights, Kids Club activities, vintage racer exhibitions, regional and national sprint cars, the annual Nostalgia Night, the Eve of Destruction, and perhaps some new events to be added as the season progresses.

The season wraps up with the 57th Annual Eastern States Weekend, again this year set for its traditional dates, Friday through Sunday, October 19-21. The Eastern States 200 is the oldest consecutively-run dirt track Modified championship race in the country. The weekend begins with time trials and heat races on Friday, then consolation races and the classic 200-lap feature on Sunday. Joining the “earth shaker” big block Modifieds in their own championship races on Friday and Saturday are the Small-Block Modifieds and Sportsman divisions. The Street Stocks get their turn on Sunday prior to the 200.

“It’s a full schedule with something for every race fan,” said Gurda. “We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at the track.”
