MIDDLETOWN, NY – The first on-track action of the new racing season is “Shake it down Weekend” practice for all Orange County Fair Speedway divisions upcoming on Friday and Saturday, March 27-28. It’s a chance for drivers to test out their race cars—shake out the cobwebs—on the big five-eighths-mile clay speedway in Middletown, New York.
Just past the halfway mark of the 2019 season, the track was completely resurfaced. And while there was an immediate improvement in the racing action, drivers had only a few opportunities to hone their skills on the new, wider, “racier” clay speedway. In preparation for the first full year racing on the rejuvenated racing surface, Orange County Fair Speedway will host a two-day open practice just a week before the official season opener Saturday night, April 4, the 71st consecutive year of weekly stock car racing.
The pits will open for competitors both days at 3:00 pm, with track time available between 6:00 and 9:30 pm. Pit admission is $25, while fans can come out and watch the action from the grandstands for free.
Competitors are reminded to complete their track membership applications early to avoid longer sign-in lines on Opening Night.
In addition, media members requesting credentials for either the practice sessions or the weekly racing programs must register with Bobby Armbruster—for the practice no later than March 24; for the weekly racing programs by March 31. Contact Bobby Armbruster at email@example.com.
