Joe Bonetti Wins Big At Orange County Fair Speedway

MIDDLETOWN, NY – Precision Hydraulic & Oil  presented Saturday night action on June 26th 2021 with a captivating night being presented for the driver out of Central Valley New York. It was Joey Bonetti topping both the H.O Penn Cat Small Block and The Arkel Motors Sportsman main events. Twenty nine H.O Penn Cat Small Block Modifieds entered to compete Saturday and Twenty Seven Arkel Motors Sportsman. It was Joe Bonetti, Corey Cormier, and Jimmy Horton winning the Small Block heat events, while Cody Higbie, Bobby Flood, and Johnny Bockhorn won the Sportsman heat races.

At the start of the H.O Penn Cat Small 30 lap feature event, it was Joey Bonetti and Danny Morgiewicz leading the way. Bonetti quickly grabbed command of the top spot and began strengthening his lead. The first caution of the event was displayed for issues involving “The Captain” Kirk Horton on the backstretch. The lead Bonetti had was scrapped and now he would have to restart alongside Morgiewicz’s #15m and have “The Sensational One” Jimmy Horton right behind him. When the green dropped Bonetti stayed out front but this time it was Jimmy Horton who would take over the ownership to the second position. The action would continue until another caution would be presented, this time for a returning Tyler Treacey. This would also put a damper on Horton’s second place efforts, as Horton was sent pit side for having a nerf bar hanging.

The next restart would have Bonetti and Morgiewicz  side by side at the green. Bonetti would stay at the lead, but had no idea the storm that was brewing behind him. Drivers like Tanner VanDoren, Dillon Steuer, Tyler Boniface, and Danny Creeden were hard on the charge to take the top spot away. The first of the charging drivers to get around Morgiewicz was VanDoren. The reigning 2020 Sportsman Champion had his #22 locked in on the top side and proved too strong, going around competitors right up to the second position. Dillon Steuer, who was invading for the evening raced his way into the top five following behind the #22 of VanDoren. Steuer would try and get by the #22 but couldn’t make it. “The Highside Hustler” Tyler Boniface would make himself known yet again for making his moves to the front. Boniface would pull up to the #17Z of Steuer and engage in a duel with the Long Island native. However, possibly the most impressive run at this point was “DC Express” Danny Creeden cracking the top five after starting twentyninth in the event.

On lap twenty-five Bonetti caught lapped traffic, and also had to deal with a wicked fast Tanner VanDoren who was hot on his heels. As Bonetti got mixed in with traffic VanDoren pulled close. On the last lap, VanDoren and Bonetti would slap rub rails going into turn three and the race was on to the checkered. Bonetti and VanDoren would drag race to the line, where Bonetti would merely get the win.

The 20 lap Arkel Motors Sportsman feature was supposed to start off with Vernon NJ’s Frank Frasco and Upper Greenwood Lake NJ’s Bobby Wosyluk on the front row. However, Wosyluk opted to head to the rear which put Cody Higbie on the front row with Frasco. When the green waved it was Higbie who took the lead with Frasco falling in line. As laps clicked off, Johnny Bockhorn would take over second, passing Frasco. The first caution of the caution plagued event showed on lap seven for a returning Bobby DeLeon on the back stretch. The next restart would see the only red flag of the event which was for two separate issues involving multiple drivers.

A restart thereafter would still have Higbie showing the way, but the two points leaders Joey Bonetti & Jeff Hulseapple charging hard to the front. Bonetti and Hulseapple would go three wide for third with Ryan Neiger in the middle. Right after the three wide affair, issues developed on the #1 of Hulseapple ending his racing efforts for the evening. On the next restart, it was Higbie still at the head of the event with Bonetti in second. It wasn’t for long as Bonetti would work his way around the #97C. Jared LaBagh was also on the move, racing within the third position. A caution would be displayed however for Troy Arnold. The next restart would have Bonetti leading the way but Jared LaBagh taking over second, but again a caution would halt the event. The field would eventually go single file for starts, as issues within the tail of the field plagued the event. Joey Bonetti would stay out front, and hold off all charges that LaBagh would throw at him. Bonetti would claim another victory for 2021 and be the points leader coming out of the event.

It was graduation night for the 2021 Precision Hydraulic & Oil Rookie Sportsman. Kasey Hufcut and Brett Welsowski started front row. Hufcut quickly took the lead with Weslowski in tow and Tyler Banks following the #3. Banks would be all over Weslowski but couldn’t make the pass, which allowed the #89 of Dylan Madsen to catch up. On lap 8 the first yellow flag waved for Thor Holmgren spinning in turn three. On the next restart it was Hufcut and Weslowski leading the way, with Madsen taking over third. Two more cautions would slow the pace of the event, but things would pick right back up. Hufcut stayed out front, and Madsen managed to get around Weslowski who had left rear suspension issues. Hufcut would take this one right on home, capitalizing on his first season at OCFS.
