Danny Creeden Tops Modified Field At Penn Can

By Nathan Aldrich

SUSQUEHANNA, PA –Danny Creeden invaded the Penn Can Speedway for the second week in a row, moving up one spot to collect the checkered flags Friday night for his first win of the season. With a second place finish last week Creeden is off to a hot start at the Can.

Alex Stanton and Creeden would lead the way as a strong field of modifieds charged off of turn 4. Stanton jolted out to the early lead but Creeden was strong from the start, completing the pass with two laps in the books. By lap 4 Creeden had already found lapped traffic, leading to a yellow as Brad Schaffer took a spin. The yellow would erase a half straight away lead for Creeden, and give him a new dancing partner in Steve Davis. Creeden would pick the inside, leading the way as Danny Tyler and Brad Szulewski battled hard. The pair would stay door to door for the next handful of laps, contesting the 7th spot until a lap 7 yellow slowed the pace once again.

Yellows would be the story as the race approached halfway with a handful coming between laps 7 and 16. With the field switching to single file and 16 laps complete, Creeden began to open up a gap, putting a full straight between himself and Davis, who held a solid advantage over third place running Alan Rudalavage. Creeden would slip past Doug Polhamus on lap 22 and catch the tail of the field in the waning laps but his advantage never shrank. Davis, Rudalavage, Stanton and Tyler rounded out the top 5.

This week will be the final draw/redraw week for Penn Can with the return of the Dirt Modified Nostalgia Tour. May 26th will start handicapping and see the return of the 604 crate late models to Penn Can. You can find them on facebook at The Penn Can Speedway!
