Port Royal Opens Juniata Fair With ULMS Late Model Renninger Memorial Saturday

PORT ROYAL, PA – Port Royal Speedway will kick off the 164th annual Juniata County Fair coming up Saturday, September 1 when it hosts the Butch Renninger Memorial for ULMS Late Models along with the 410 sprints, econo late models and xtreme stocks, at 7 pm.

The ULMS Late Model Butch Renninger Memorial will go 33 laps in distance and pay $4,333 to win and $333 just to start.

Renninger was a three time track champion that scored 41 career wins in the division at the track. He also served on the board of directors of the speedway for decades and oversaw track preparation and oval concessions at the same time.

The econo late models and xtreme stocks will also be competing in Renninger Memorial events boasting increased purses along with numerous contingency cash awards and prizes.

Heats for the super lates will pay to finish first and second as will econo late model heats. In addition, every lap of the super late model main and the econo late model main will pay $33 to lead.

The 410 sprints will contest a regular 25-lap event paying $3,600 to win.

All four division mains will be full point events.

Adult grandstand general admission for the Renninger Memorial Fair Opener is $20 with students ages 12 – 18 admitted for $10. Adult fans and fair goers will also be charged $4 at the outside gate as admission to the Juniata County Fair.

The raindate for the Renninger Memorial is September 7.

In last year’s Butch Renninger Memorial for super late models, Danville’s Jeff Rine took the lead from Jason Covert in traffic on lap 15.

The victory was Rine’s second in the oval’s marquee event for the super lates having also scored laurels in 2011.

Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mills is the only other repeat winner in the prestigious event, having scored wins in 2012 and 2016.

Other winners have been Steve Campbell, Scott Haus, Mitch Hack, Jere Wierman, Tim Wilson, Waylon Wagner, Jason Covert, Justin Kann and Dylan Yoder.

Yoder is the current Port Royal points leader.

The oval will return to action on Labor Day Monday, September 3 at 1 pm with the running of the 67th annual Foss Jewelers Labor Day Classic for 410 sprints along with econo late models and four cylinder pure stocks.
