AUBURN, NY – It’s that time of year again. The Northeast racing season slowly comes to life as the indoor show venues kick off the action for 2017. The new kid on the block last year comes back this season with a fresh face and an even fresher approach to the traditional mall show.
Finger Lakes Speed World returns this season March 4th and 5th bigger and better than ever. Many of last year’s ideas carry over as well as a few new exhibits for this latest edition. The Finger Lakes Mall in Auburn New York will once again host the Speed World show, opening up it’s main mall corridor and several empty store spaces to everything from go-karts to sprint cars and everything in between. Several racing facilities from around the area and many motorsports organizations will be represented as well. As always, there is no admission charge and no charge for displaying at the show.
This year’s show theme is “Focus On Racing”. The show is dedicated to everyone who documents motorsports of all kinds on film, digital media and video. Some of the best photographers in motorsports will be on hand displaying their work and most will have photos or videos for sale. John Meloling, Taylor Moran, and Ted Schmidt are all committed to displays and many more are expected.
After the success of last season’s show, the Home Made Hall of Fame returns to Speed World. This is a chance for race fans, veteran racers and collectors to display their collections of racing memorabilia in a safe, secure location. Last year’s exhibit attracted a lot of attention and was a welcome addition to speed world.
The RC derby returns as well. A little skepticism last year brought about a huge reaction from the crowd as an action packed scale demo derby raged on for close to half an hour. And if Radio Control is your thing, Small Addictions RC Hobby in the mall will be holding an all day Mudboss oval race on Saturday.
The racing theater comes back for 2017, better than ever. There will be racing videos shown all day along with some fun interactive events including “Inside the Announcers Booth”, and the possible return of “Virtual Flagger” for the kids.
The power wheels race comes back as well. The kids had a lot of fun with this last year. All you need is a power wheels vehicle, a basic bicycle helmet and a kid who wants to race.
All events will be posted to the schedule as soon as everything is finalized. The show will be held during regular mall hours. You can check out more information on the show at our Facebook page at Finger Lakes Speed World which is updated regularly. Anyone interested in displaying at Speed world can contact Jim Olin at (315) 632-8046. Display spaces are free but you must be registered to reserve a spot. Vendors are welcome as well.
