Weedsport’s Sportsman Series Premiers on Speedway Showcase this Sunday

By RICH VLECK

ROCHESTER, NY – It took five attempts for the first Beyea Headers Sportsman Series event of 2017 to take place, but in the blink of an eye it went by; to chronicle it, the television cameras were in place to sensationalize all of the great side-by-side action.

Beginning this Sunday, July 23rd, at 11:00 AM, the first of three Sportsman events from Weedsport Speedway will start broadcasting on Spectrum Sports Channel (formerly Time Warner Cable Sports Channel) across Upstate New York. Additional airtimes will vary depending on the market and are listed below.

Rain knocked out the first four attempts at racing, and while showers hit Weedsport during the afternoon, the speedway staff as well as the race teams were determined to get a night in at the newest crown jewel of racing. The result was some clean yet hard racing for the first checkered flag of the year at “The Port”.

With Weedsport Productions in charge of recording the event, an incredible 12 different camera angles were utilized on the night, including three in-car cameras, a speed shot and the always-popular drone shot. Host Rich Vleck is joined by expert Doug Elkins in the booth while veteran pit reporter Paul Szmal hunts down the stories in the pits.  In addition to the racing action, the 60-minute broadcast also features two pit chronicles, the all-new Kid Question, the always-popular Tech Minute and a showcase of “The Gearbox”, one of the many improvements made at the Weedsport Speedway.

Speedway Showcase will air regularly at 11:00 A.M. each Sunday Morning, with more airtimes available throughout the week.  After the final airtime, the broadcast will be available on-demand at www.SpeedwayShowcase.com, just as the first two episodes are now.  Later this summer, two more Sportsman Series events from the Weeedsport Speedway, plus the Triple Crown Showdown at Ohsweken Speedway will be featured.  Speedway Showcase is produced by Weedsport Productions and edited by Hot Wings Media, which has broadcasted more than 50 race nights over the last 10 years.
