RANSOMVILLE, NY – Medina, NY’s Jesse Cotriss won the Krown Undercoating Modified feature on HyTech Concrete and Farmers Insurance of Lockport Night at the Ransomville Speedway on Friday evening, earning his first career Modified victory. Derek Wagner from Middleport, NY won his first career Investors Service Sportsman feature event. Ryan Hoolihan from Sanborn, NY won the main event for the KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks. Cameron Tuttle from Wilson, NY won his third Stevenson’s Hardware Novice Sportsman feature of the season. Chad Desso from Wilson, NY won his second Gippsters Collision 4 Bangers feature of the season.
Jesse Cotriss and Jim Zimmerman led the Krown Undercoating Modifieds to the green flag for their 30 lap feature with Cotriss taking off with Scott Kerwin running in second place. Chad Brachmann took third with Pete Bicknell moving into fourth after both passed Allan Wills on lap three. Erick Rudolph and Ryan Susice settled into fifth and sixth on lap five and moved in on fourth place running Chad Brachmann. With a third of the race in the books, Cotriss still led over Kerwin, Bicknell, Brachmann, and Rudolph. The leaders hit lap traffic on lap 12, and the battle for second heated up as Brachmann went to the outside to pass Bicknell for third and then went to the outside and used the moat to passed Kerwin for second. At the same time, Erick Rudolph passed Bicknell for fourth. John Smith spun on the front straightaway on lap 18 to bring out the caution. On the restart, Cotriss and Brachmann took off from Kerwin, Rudolph, and Bicknell. Brachmann challenged Cotriss in the final 10 laps but it was Cotriss earning his first career Krown Undercoating Modified feature.
Darrell Borkenhagen and Dustin Gorhan were on the front row to pace the feature event for the Investors Service Sportsman with Borkenhagen leading the stout field of 25 Sportsman. The field was like pinball’s, bouncing off each other early on and Austin Susice spun, in turn, two after contact with Jim Harbison on lap four. The restart saw Justin McKay take off in the lead. Gorhan would regain the lead on lap seven with Derek Wagner taking second at the line and Matt Farnham moving into third. The lead trio pulled away from the rest of the field as Greg Martin passed Dave Flannigan for fourth place on lap 12. Gorhan pushed up the track exiting turn two on lap 13, giving the lead to Derek Wagner with Farnham moving into second place. The caution came out on lap 17 for debris, in turn, four, erasing the lead that Wagner had over Farnham. Wagner took off in the lead over Farnham with Greg Martin passing Gorhan to move into third. Wagner pulled away from the rest of the field to score his first career Sportsman feature.
Jordan Moden and Joey Zimmerman shared the front row for the KiPo Chevrolet Street Stocks with Chris Dziomba taking over the lead when Moden pulled his racer into the pits on the opening circuit. With Dziomba showing the way, Ryan Hoolihan raced in second with Jaren Israel and Pete Stefanski running in fourth. Pat Dell spun, in turn, two after being hooked up with Brian Monahan. On the restart, Dziomba showed the way with Israel passing Hoolihan for second on lap seven. Israel was glued to the rear bumper of Dziomba and battled for the lead with Israel taking command of the field on lap 10. Ryan Hoolihan took the lead away from Israel as Israel slowed up entering turn three on lap 17, with Dziomba and Stefanski moving into second and third. Hoolihan held off Dziomba to score the win.
Adam Harris and Cliff Gregg brought the Stevenson’s Hardware Novice Sportsman to the green flag for their 15 lap feature go with Gregg showing the way. Cameron Tuttle worked his way into third and went after race leader Cliff Gregg and Bubby Pawlak. Tuttle moved into second place on lap three and then battled with Gregg for the lead while Kyle Wendt took over third. Tuttle would go to the outside of Gregg to take over the lead on lap five. Robbie Johnston spun in turn three to bring out the caution on lap 10, erasing Tuttle’s lead over the field. Tuttle pulled away from the rest of the field to score his third win of the season.
Chuck Cala and Anthony Hermanson led the Gippsters Collision 4 Bangers to the green flag with Hermanson showing the way early on. Qualifying winner Anthony Guthrie quickly moved up through the field and was running in second and then had mechanical issues with a broken right front and hit the turn three wall to bring out the races first caution on lap five. On the restart, Chad Desso took command of the field with Howard Guthrie taking over second with Chris Leone running in third. Leone would pass Guthrie for second and then went after race leader Desso. Drew Westmoreland hit the turn four wall hard with four laps remaining, bringing out the caution. The final four laps saw Desso and Leone pull away from the field with Desso holding off Leone to score his second win of the season.
NEWS AND NOTES: A huge fireworks show lit up the sky in celebration of the Independence Day Weekend holiday. A total of 83 cars were in the pits for the racing action. Tom Thompson performed both the Canadian and American national anthems. Ransomville Speedway management would also like to remind the fans that if blankets and tarps that get left on the bleachers will be thrown away as they are causing damage to the bleachers and damage to the newly replaced boards. The grandstands will begin to get numbered for the Craftsman World of Outlaw Sprint Cars “Big R Outlaw Shootout” and they cannot be numbered with the blankets and tarps still covering them. Management asks to take all tarps and blankets off the bleachers after each race night.
The 60th season of racing at the Big R will continue on Friday, July 7th as the Jetport Lounge and Niagara Lazy Lakes Resort presents a full card of racing plus Kids Rides! Gates will swing open in the pits at 5:00 pm with grandstands opening at 6:00 pm with racing action starting at 7:15 pm.
