MILLSBORO, DE – In 2020, the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco led the Northeast Modified industry, navigating COVID-19 regulations to provide touring series racing and point funds for the region’s competitors.

The plan for 2021: ‘Bigger and Better.’

STSS management has released the ’21 Northeast schedule for both the STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman. Again, North and South regional breakdowns have been established with separate point funds available for each.

For the seventh consecutive year, Bob Hilbert Sportswear of Boyertown, Pa., returns as the title sponsor of the series.

All STSS events will be streamed live by Dirt Track Digest TV (www.dirttrackdigest.tv) during the upcoming season.

“We’re very proud of the schedule we’ve put together,” STSS organizer Brett Deyo said. “We’re hopeful COVID-19 restrictions will be easing up by the spring. Of course, we will do our best to adapt and keep our racers on the track again.”

Fifteen tracks are represented on the Northeast schedule, with swings planned for both Florida (January) and Louisiana (November).

Modified South Region

The STSS Modified South Region, presented by Velocita-USA, Design for Vision and Sunglass Central, kicks off in March at Georgetown (Del.) Speedway with the annual Melvin L. Joseph Memorial race on March 13. The event pays $10,049 to win for 49 laps in ’21. A Friday (March 12) preliminary night leads into the Saturday main event.

Georgetown boasts three stops on the schedule, including the ‘Blast at the Beach’ on Aug. 24 and the Mid-Atlantic Championship Weekend on Oct. 29-30.

A Central Pennsylvania doubleheader is planned for March 20-21 with Selinsgrove (Pa.) Speedway making a first-time series schedule appearance on Saturday, complimenting the first of two ’21 visits to Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway Sunday.

Charlie Cathell’s Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, Del., returns to an early-season date with the ‘Diamond State 50’ slated for April 27.

The Garden State of New Jersey is well represented in ’21. New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway (May 25) and Doug Rose’s new Bridgeport (N.J.) Motorsports Park high-banked layout (July 27) make their respective returns to the STSS.

Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville, Pa., as it has since the ’15 season, hosts the only combined North-South Modified event, the ‘Anthracite Assault’ on June 8.

The pristine Port Royal Speedway on the Juniata Fairgrounds will partner with BD Motorsports Media LLC to present the ‘Speed Showcase 200’ weekend headlined by a $50,000-to-win event Oct. 14-16.

Modified North Region

Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply of Hurlock, Md., has taken over title sponsorship role of the STSS Modified North Region for the ’21 season.

Gary and Donna Palmer’s Accord (N.Y.) Speedway is slated to open the North battle on Tuesday, May 11 with the ‘Battle of the Bullring’ event. One week later, attention turns to the Finger Lakes and Tyler Siri’s Outlaw Speedway in Dundee, N.Y., on May 18 for the ‘Outlaw Showdown’ at the four-tenths-mile track.

After a successful STSS return last year under the Folk family’s leadership, Penn Can Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa., takes over the Memorial Day weekend May 30 slot in the return of the ‘Clash at the Can’ which was run successfully at the track from 2010-2014.

Following the Big Diamond June 8 combination event, attention turns to Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway on Independence Day weekend. The ‘Firecracker 50’ paying $10,000 to win is slated for Sunday, July 4.

The all-new Bloomsburg (Pa.) Fair Raceway located on the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds will welcome the STSS on Wednesday, July 14 for the ‘Battle at Bloomsburg’ event.

August features stops at traditional STSS Empire State venues of Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway (Aug. 10) and Thunder Mountain Speedway in Center Lisle, N.Y. (Aug. 31).

After being halted by state restrictions for one year, the Fonda 200 brings its $53,000 payday back to the Fonda Speedway Sept. 16-18.

The Short Track SuperNationals at Ron Ford’s Afton (N.Y.) Motorsports Park wraps up the North Region with the ‘Working Man’s Race’ Short Track SuperNationals on Columbus Day weekend.

Crate 602 Sportsman

The Crate 602 Sportsman has grown with the STSS. For ’21, Belmont’s Garage has signed on to present the South Region, with Precision Hydraulic & Oil taking the lead on the North Region.  This is the first time in series history both regions have title sponsors.

The Crate 602 Sportsman South Region includes nine events: three at Georgetown (March 13, Aug. 24, Oct. 30) and single stops at Selinsgrove (March 20), Delaware international (April 27), New Egypt (May 25), Big Diamond (June 8), Bridgeport (July 27) and Port Royal (Oct. 16).

The Crate 602 Sportsman North Region visits Accord (May 11), Fonda (July 4 and Sept. 18), Bloomsburg (July 14), Woodhull (Aug. 10), Thunder Mountain (Aug. 31) and Afton (Oct. 9).

Florida Sunshine Swing

For the first time ever, STSS Modifieds and Crate 602 Sportsman tackle Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., for the ‘Sunshine Swing’ Jan. 26-30, 2021. An open practice on Tuesday leads into four nights of racing at the three-eighths-mile track.

Modifieds race for $4,000, $5,000, $6,000 and $8,000 to win over the week, with Crate 602 Sportsman in action for $1,250 to win twice and $1,500 to win twice.

November Cajun Swing

Nov. 10-13 will be earmarked for the return to the Bayou for the second annual ‘Cajun Swing’ events. A $20,000-to-win ‘Mods in the Marsh 75’ will headline the swing at Jerry Hobson’s Chatham (La.) Speedway Nov. 12-13. Preliminary events will be announced in the coming weeks.

Cajun Region Formed

A Short Track Super Series affiliate Cajun Region has been formed and will host events in Louisiana and Texas to aid the growth of the division. Approximately 10-12 events will be run, kicking off at Chatham on March 27. Chris and Tim Bates will serve as series directors in the new region.

A new website – www.shorttracksuperseriescajun.com – has been launched for the STSS Cajun Region.
