CONCORD, NC – The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series makes its lone visit of the 40th Anniversary Season to South Dakota with a return to the scenic Black Hills Speedway in Rapid City, SD on Friday, August 24.
The 2017 edition of the Rushmore Outlaw Showdown was one to remember as Shane Stewart held off a hard-charging Sheldon Haudenschild to score the victory. Stewart, who self-admittedly has had a forgettable first half of the season, is anxious to get back to Black Hills.
“It’s always good to return to track that you’ve won at. Confidence is everything in this sport. This year we’re going back with a totally different package. It’s sort of like a fresh notebook, but hopefully the success we had last year can translate into this season,” Stewart, driver of the Kyle Larson Racing No.2 said in anticipation of the return to Black Hills Speedway.
August 24 will mark the Series’ ninth visit to Rapid City, dating back to 1983 when Steve Kinser won the inaugural visit to the facility. Kinser was also victorious in 1984 and 1987, while Bobby Davis, Jr. claimed the win in 1989.
Stewart’s win last year stopped a three-race win streak at the facility for nine-time Series Champion Donny Schatz, who was victorious in 2006, 2007 and 2011.
“We race all over the country, but I remember Black Hills being a great race. We put on a good show, and it was an exciting race track to race at. I’m excited to get back there,” Stewart added.
