CONCORD, NC – Gary Lindberg won his second Last Chance Showdown of the weekend for the Super DIRTcar Series Modifieds while Jimmy Phelps went to his back-up car and earned the checker in the second for Saturday night racing at the World Finals presented by Can Am.
Lindberg, from the pole, took off from the rest of the field at the green.
Rich Scagliotta spun in turn one, but kept going to keep the yellow in the holster.
Jessy Mueller, who started on the outside of row number one, fell in line behind the leader which left the third and final spot up for grabs.
Tyler Siri was comfortably in third at the outset and was never headed.
At the checker Lindberg was six-tenths of a second ahead of Mueller while Siri got in the final race with a third.
Another six seconds behind was fourth place, and smoking, Steve Feder who was followed by Marcus Dinkins to complete the top five.
Phelps and Pat Ward started one-two and that is the way they finished as Jimmy crossed the line 1.4 second ahead.
Third was at stake and there was some big time racing for the spot. Yan Bussiere was third, but on a restart after a yellow for an Adam Roberts shredded right rear tire, Josh Hohenforst powered past the Quebec promoter.
Moments later Scott Hitchen spun off two and on the ensuing restart Bussiere got the spot back.
Stewart Friesen, in Chad Jeseo’s 25, sustained a flat, pitted and never returned.
Phelps, Ward and Bussiere got the spots with Hohenforst fourth followed by Gary Edwards in fifth.
