CONCORD, NC – Jonathan Davenport rode off into the sunset to nail down the win in Friday’s World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series feature event. With a mid-race pass of Brandon Sheppard, the show was all Davenport’s in the late going.
Ricky Weiss was the early leader in the 50-lap feature, with Sheppard and Davenport following in his tracks. Sheppard hung close through the first handful of laps, taking to the middle of the speedway to roll around bottom-feeding Weiss to lead lap 12. Davenport made his way to second by lap 20, hawking Sheppard at halfway.
Davenport grew closer to Sheppard, diving to the bottom on lap 32 and sliding to the lead. Sheppard lost touch of Davenport once Davenport got to clean air, as Davenport could use any and all lanes through traffic. Weiss fell victim of to Tyler Erb and Dennis Erb Jr., with Tyler Erb reeling in Sheppard.
While Sheppard and the pair of Erbs grew closer, the opposite was the case for Davenport. Out front, it was all Davenport, who cruised to the checkered flag and scored the win in Friday’s World of Outlaws Late Model Series feature.
“I thought I was a little better than Sheppard through the middle of that one,” Davenport said. “We got to traffic and he slipped just enough to where I could get a run on him. We got under and got out front, it was steady from there.”
Sheppard finished second, while Dennis Erb Jr. got by Tyler Erb in the final turn to score third. Tyler Erb nailed down fourth, with Weiss fifth.
